Frankfurt (Germany), Aug 15 (EFECOM).- German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen will supply Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra with electronic components for its new electric SUVs.
Volkswagen on Monday said it intends to accelerate electrification in the Indian car market through this strategic alliance.
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to supply Mahindra with components from VW’s MEB modular electric platform for its new electric SUVs.
Volkswagen plans to deliver more than one million units.
MEB stands for Modular Electric Drive Matrix, a platform developed for the IT range designed for electric cars.
The MEB platform is composed of a fast-charging battery system that consists of an array of modules whose number varies according to the autonomy chosen for a given model. Each module contains 12 lithium ion battery cells.
Volkswagen and Mahindra intend to explore further possibilities of collaboration in electric mobility in India such as vehicle projects, charging and energy solutions and local battery production.
With 3 million new vehicles a year, India is one of the world’s five largest car markets and, along with China, is the only region to see an increase in registrations in the first half of 2022.
Volkswagen expects the electrification of the passenger car segment to accelerate significantly in the coming years.
