Royals Boogie to Lionel Richie at the coronation ceremony

John Lennon famously urged the occupants of the royal box to “stir up their jewels” when the Beatles performed at the 1963 Royal Variety Show.

Sixty years later, Lionel Richie didn’t have to make such a request to get the royals on their feet for a special concert in the grounds of Windsor Castle on Sunday night to celebrate the coronation.

Charles, Camilla, William, Kate, Edward and Sophie are all eager to dance, while the younger generation, George and Charlotte, seem scared for a while, but eventually join in. There’s no word on whether Harry and Meghan are throwing shapes as Lillibet and Archie return to Montecito, but somehow, the royal suspects it is.

It was an evening full of cheesy, cool messages and eco, starting with famous DJ Pete Tong spinning a few tunes. He later said that King said he “wanted the Ibiza classics, that was very specific”.

Attending Hugh Bonneville of Paddington The fame, essential though it was, prompted hopes that the lovable bear might reprise his starring role from the jubilee to the coronation, but in the end it wasn’t. However, there were videos of Winnie-the-Pooh, who hailed the King for loving red squirrels so much he let them into the house, and Tom Cruise, who was filmed flying a plane and saying, “Pilot pilot, Your Majesty, you can Be my wings anytime” before you salute and fly.

There was another cameo from Miss Piggy and Kermit, who crashed the stage. While Miss Piggy puts Bonneville on display, Kermit sneaks into the royal box, where he eventually shows up dancing to Katy Perry’s “Roar” with everyone’s favorite royal fall guy, Prince Edward, who seems wonderfully impervious to all humiliation.

However, Prince William delivered the sweetest moment of the night, paying tribute to his father’s environmental advocacy, a theme referenced again and again in a stunning drone display in the night sky.

“Pa, we are all very proud of you,” he said, and then, pointing to his grandmother, said, “I know she is out there, watching fondly at us. She would be a proud mother.”

Tonight, it would be terrible to doubt that.
