Drip check time:
LSU forward Angel Reese may be known as “Bayou Barbie” for her glamor, but coach Kim Mulkey stole the show Friday with her latest statement.
Mulkey appeared in the Tigers’ Sweet 16 game against the Utah Utes in a sharp jacket that featured a floral and plaid pattern. Yes floral and plaid.
but that is not all. The jacket had a pink fringe of feathers. And not under the arms in the western style. over the arms. So Mulky seemed to have wings not of a peaceful flamingo, but of a powerful pink bird of prey ready to pounce for the kill.
The 9-ranked Miami Hurricanes reached the first Elite Eight by defeating the 4-ranked Villanova Wildcats 70-65 despite a big comeback effort led by senior forward Maddy Siegrist, who scored 31 points and 13 rebounds on the day. “We just want it for each other,” striker Destiny Harden said after the game.
Villanova erased a 21-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter after a 23-2 run. Maddie Siegrist led the charge, tied the game and then took a 60-59 lead on a pair of free throws.
After falling by as many as 21 points after the first half, Villanova scored 14 points in the third quarter. Maddy Siegrist kicked off the action with a pair of free throws after a fumble by Destiny Harden. She made three more free throws, a jump and a layup on a spree to give her a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds on the day. Miami is 57-51 at the end of the third quarter.
Looking to continue the historic run, Miami leads Villanova by the half
The Hurricanes, ranked No. 9, led the Wildcats at halftime in the Greenville Regional 2 bracket, using an 11-2 run to take a 46-33 lead at the break.

Watchability Ratings: LSU-Utah is a must see!
This game features two of the game’s top big players in Alyssa Bailey of Utah State and Angel Reese of LSU. Their teams still play largely because of these two, who can — and do — single-handedly break up an opponent.
Bailey scored 33 points in the first round and hit a double-double against Princeton in the second round. Reese had a double double in both games and was very dominant over Michigan in the second round, having double digits in both offensive and defensive rebounds.
What also makes this game interesting is the contrasting styles. LSU makes a living off its defense — duh, its coach is Kim Mulkey — while Utah runs one of the most efficient offenses in the country. Something must be given.

As dynamic and exciting as the MVP-of-the-year contestant is, Iowa has yet to make an Elite Eight, let alone a Final Four, since Caitlin Clark hit campus. Last year, the Hawkeyes didn’t make it out of Carver-Hawkeye Arena, as they fell in the second round.
But with Stanford, seeded ahead of the No. 2 Seattle Hawkeyes’ Region 4, out of the tournament along with Duke and Texas, this is Clark and Iowa’s chance to make a statement. Did you leave seeds in their area? fifth seed Louisville, sixth seed Colorado and eighth seed Ole Miss.
The Hawkeyes play Colorado Friday night in a Sweet 16 game.
“Anytime you’re one of the 16 teams that continue to play basketball, it’s very special,” Clark said after Iowa’s victory over Georgia. “(But) it wasn’t a huge party or a locker room celebration. That wasn’t our goal. It’s one of the steps to reach our goal, but it’s not everything, it’s the end for us.”

The Ole Miss coach was not the school’s first choice
Talk about winning the press conference.
Minutes after her team stunned No. 1 ranked Stanford in Maples Pavilion to advance to the Sweet 16, Ole Miss Yolett McPhee-McCuin coach, better known as “Coach Yo,” went viral in her interview with ESPN.
“This is for people with a dollar and a dream. I’m a little girl from the Bahamas who got a chance,” McPhee McQueen said, overcome with emotion. “I wasn’t Ole Miss’s first choice. But I was the right choice. And I was naive enough to think I could do it.”
Perhaps the most quotable person at the NCAA men’s or women’s tournaments, McPhee-McQueen noted that second, third, and fourth choices happen in other parts of life, too.
“Listen, my husband wasn’t first,” said McPhee McQueen. “And I almost put him through the transfer window a few times. But we’re happily married and on June 8th he turns 16. So you take it into account how you get it and make the most of it.”

Memphis guard Jumeirah Schutz was charged with assault after hitting Bowling Green senior Elisa Brett in the face following the team’s 73-60 victory over the Tigers in the women’s NIT Super 16 championship Thursday night.
After the final bell, the players and coaches gathered to engage in the usual handshake line when Schutz stopped by and exchanged words with Brett.
Then the 23-year-old Schootis, the team’s leading scorer, punched Brett in the face and was pulled away from the incident by the Memphis coaching staff.
According to an incident report obtained by USA TODAY Sports, Bowling Green State University police investigated the incident and said the Memphis player hit Brett with a closed fist and developed “some swelling in her right eye” from the punch.
