2023 PAC-12 Women’s Championship
Today is the third day of racing in the 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Championship in Federal Way, Washington. Titles available today include 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 freestyle, 100 breast, 100 back and 400 medley relay.
Stanford University had a successful preliminary session this morning with 17 finalists participating. They have 3 of the top 5 seeds in the individual races tonight, as well as the top seed in the 400 medley relay. Taylor Rock She would run the 200-meter freestyle, an event in which she was the defending national champion. Claire Karzan She is the number one seed in the 100 fly and second in the 100 fly, behind her teammate Torey Husky.
University of California, Los Angeles Paige McKeachern He had a great swim this morning to take the top seed out of the 400 IM by more than two seconds, while USC holds the advantage in the 100 breaststroke with Caitlin Doppler And Isabel Odgers They are seeded one and two heading into tonight’s final.

Cal freshman Leah Polonsky He earned the pole position of the season with a best time of 4:05.27, almost a second ahead of the runner-up. Paige McKeachern. Polunksy established an early 3-second lead about halfway through, and was able to hold the field as it made its way back to it.
Lucy Bell Rounding out the top three with a personal best time of 4:06.28. She nearly caught Maceachern in the final 100, as Bell split 55.54 into Maceachern’s 56.45.
Justina Cousin From the University of Southern California he was the only other athlete to break the 4:10 barrier. Although she has been at her personal best since 2019, her time was her season’s best by more than half a second.

As expected, this race was a battle between Torey Husky And Claire Karzan From Stanford. Hosk stopped the watch at 49.27, a few hundredths earlier than when she was posting in November. Karzan also broke the fifty-second barrier, but was disqualified for a false start. Huke’s time set a new Pac-12 championship record by less than tenth.
Cales finished second behind Huske Mia Craggwho recorded a personal best time of nearly two-tenths of a second.
Arizona Junior Julia Heimstead She finished third, improving on a personal best time set in the prelims to record 52.03. This is the first swim in what is arguably the toughest double of the night, as she’ll be back in the 200 Freestyle.

Stanford dominated the event by sweeping the top three spots. Taylor Rock, the defending NCAA champion, finished first with a season’s best time of 1:43.05. Ruck extended her early lead with the fastest opening split of the field at 50.30.
Kayla Wilson And Morgan Tankersley He touched second and third, both with the best times of the season. Rounding out the Stanford team was Lily Nordman And Natalie Mannion winning sixth and seventh overall.
cal Mia Mutikitis And Isla Spitz Improvement in the morning swim for the fourth and fifth. Mutikaitis swam just a few tenths off her personal best time to take the lead in the 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday.

USC duo Caitlin Doppler And Isabelle Odgers got the job done tonight with a 1-2 score. Defending national champion Doppler led the way as she won her third straight Pac-12 title in the event. She scored 57.10, her season’s best time of 56.94. Doppler’s time was also a new Pac-12 championship record, her previous swim being last year.
Odgers had a solid swim to finish second with a score of 58.92, just 0.04 short of her personal best time from a dual meet earlier this month.
Behind them were a large number of athletes who broke a minute. University of California, Los Angeles Claire Grover He set a personal best time for a third-place finish, while Stanford’s time was second automatic rap I improved by about a second from this morning for a fourth contact. Raab entered the meet ranked 20th.

having been disqualified for a false start earlier in the session, Claire Karzan He bounced back to win the backstroke 100 in a personal best time of 49.46. Karzan led from the start with 24.06 in the first 50, then split 12.80 and 12.60 over the next twenty-five.
cal Isabel Staden He was about a second and a half back to take second place in a personal best time of 50.79. She knocked 0.02 off her previous best group in the NCAAs this past March.
Finishing in fourth place was Cal Freshman Annika McEnroe, which was outside the best time I set this morning. McEnroe entered the fifth meet with a score of 53.12, but lost his best time by more than a second to qualify for this final in third place.
Stanford Lucy Nordman And Alex Cressera They were the only other athletes besides the top two athletes to improve on their morning swim. Nordmann had his season’s best to finish third, while Crysera did the same to finish fifth.

The Stanford team of Karzan (49.76), Raab (59.44), Husky (49.74) and Rock (46.85) dominated the final event of the evening with a time of 3:25.79. Stanford’s splits were the fastest in the event.
Cal officially finished second with a 3:31.10, due to the disqualification of the USC team. UCLA and Arizona State found themselves in a tight race for third place, a few tenths separating them heading into the final stretch. Claire Grover I stopped Lindsey Looney on the anchor leg for UCLA to round out the top three.
