This is a 15% increase compared to 2020 when 371,503 complaints were registered from women across the country.
However, this report reveals only a fraction of the cases that occur as it only takes into account the complaints received by the police station and ignores other crimes that do not escape privacy.
Cruelty against a husband or relative accounted for nearly a third of the complaints last year, followed by 86,631 cases of “intent to outrage the dignity of women”.
Kidnapping, with 71,040 complaints, and rape, with 30,216, represent the most common crimes reported by them.
The NCRB report also counted other brutal crimes, such as 287 women killed after rape or 98 acid attacks.
Even excluding the thousands of unreported assaults, the data shows that 64.5 women out of every 100,000 will be victims of some form of crime in 2021 in this country of 1.4 billion people.
The northeastern state of Assam, with 168.3 complaints from women per 100,000 inhabitants, was the least safe place for them in India, while insecurity was highest in the capital, with 147.6 crimes reported by women. , according to NCRB. Document.
