India is the protagonist of the 56th edition of the Valladolid Book Fair

Valladolid Mayor Oscar Puente, Culture and Tourism Councilor Ana Redondo and Pablo de Carre, President of the Booksellers Association, presented the 56th edition of the Valladolid Book Fair this morning at the Capital City Hall. This year will have India as its protagonist and guest country.

This year’s poster by Indian-origin artist, writer and founder of L’École de Papier Karisma Sukhani depicts India’s national bird, the peacock. The fashion designer, Campo Grande explained that the animal is closely linked to the Asian country and Valladolid.

Likewise, the Cultural Councilor has indicated that this version of the book fair may have a “wink to cinema”, indicating that Valladolid will be the host city for the next edition of the Goya Awards. “We are wrapping up programming for this year’s edition and will be able to deliver it in full in a few days,” Redondo said.

The event, which will take place between June 2 and 11 in Valladolid’s Plaza Mayor, will feature 55 booksellers’ booths and will host an edition for the first time. Jaipur Literary Festival (JLF). Held annually since 2006 in the city of Jaipur, this literary festival is considered Asia’s most important, and the event features debates and reflection sessions in the presence of eminent writers, philosophers and humanists. .

Under the motto ‘Words Bridges’, it opens its doors to the world in Spanish for the first time and will bring together different literary figures and cultural worlds from India, Spain and Latin America from June 2 to 4.

In addition to the Plaza Mayor, cultural activities will be held at the entertainment circle, where readers’ meetings with authors and book presentations will take place. The Children’s Pavilion will offer activities aimed at new readers, including storytelling, workshops, illustration, drama and poetry.

Puente has announced that the pastor of this year’s exhibition will be author Santiago Posteguillo. “He is the most famous and respected author of the historical novel written in Spanish,” he said. Posteguillo thanked him via video for being appointed pastor of this year’s edition. “It is very exciting for me to have the great writer Miguel Telebas as the pastor of the book fair in the city,” he pointed out.

Posteguillo received the Valencian Generalitat Award for Literature in 2010, and the Planeta Award in 2018 for his novel ‘Yo, Julia’. Additionally, he is a best-selling author of historical novels in Spanish with over 4,000,000 readers.

This year a new edition of ‘Los barrios leen’ will be held as a precursor to the fair, an initiative promoted by the organization of the book fair, which will take place in Barrio España, Vadillos, Delicias and Pinar de Antequera.
