Russell Crowe broke down in tears Friday morning as he spoke of the tragic death of his puppy, Louis.
The Gladiator star, 58, announced Thursday that his beloved dog died at the age of 16 months after being hit by a truck on the second anniversary of his father’s death.
Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show in the morning, Crowe was emotional as he expressed his grief and pain.
Host Kyle Sandilands began offering his condolences to Crowe, agreeing that dogs are “like family.”
‘Are you well? Is everything alright there? Kyle asked.
With tears in his eyes, Crow replied, “No, we’re actually a little devastated.”
He was such a sweet little puppy that you know and we just kind of wrapped around him and shaped our lives around him. So it will take some time to get over it.
Sandilands and co-host Jackie O. Henderson again expressed sympathy for the actor.
Crowe posted a photo of his puppy Papillon on Twitter Thursday and captioned it with some heartbreaking words.
“This is Louis. 16 months old. Small, cheeky, brave. He won my heart. Unfortunately today, on the second anniversary of my father’s death, he was hit by a truck.”
“We tried to get him to the vet, but he died in my arms while I was telling him how much we loved him.”
Many of Russell’s celebrity friends were quick to offer their condolences to the grieving actor.
‘So sorry, my friend.’ Singer Ben Lee wrote to send love while many others agreed.
Tragically, the pup passed away on the two-year anniversary of the death of Russell’s 85-year-old father, John Alexander Crowe.
Prior to John’s death, the couple had been isolating together at the family’s country home in Nana Glen, New South Wales, where Russell revealed he wanted to be close to his parents John and Jocelyn amid the pandemic.
Russell documented his time in the Outback with a sweet Instagram post of his ‘old man’ in April 2020.
He shared a photo of his father beaming in front of the perfect estate while wearing a baseball cap gifted to him by Russell.
He captioned the shot: “Isolation with old man. 84 now. I was wearing a hat I got at Princeton while shooting A Beautiful Mind.”
Russell announced the sad news of his father’s death in a series of tweets.
He wrote: “I was back in the bush last night. Today, though the sun is shining and the heavy rain has subsided, this date will forever be tinged with sadness.”
My dear man is gone, my sweet father, and the gentlest of men. He died in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, his home for the past 25 years. rest in peace.’
“Certified alcohol aficionado. Organizer. Explorer. Lifelong writer. Falls down a lot. Proud social mediaholic. Freelance student.”
