Russell Crowe broke down in tears Friday morning as he spoke of the tragic death of his puppy, Louis.
The Gladiator star, 58, announced Thursday that his beloved dog died at the age of 16 months after being hit by a truck on the second anniversary of his father’s death.
Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show in the morning, Crowe was emotional as he expressed his grief and pain.
Host Kyle Sandilands began offering his condolences to Crowe, agreeing that dogs are “like family.”
‘Are you well? Is everything alright there? Kyle asked.
With tears in his eyes, Crow replied, “No, we’re actually a little devastated.”
He was such a sweet little puppy that you know and we just kind of wrapped around him and shaped our lives around him. So it will take some time to get over it.
Sandilands and co-host Jackie O. Henderson again expressed sympathy for the actor.
Crowe posted a photo of his puppy Papillon on Twitter Thursday and captioned it with some heartbreaking words.
“This is Louis. 16 months old. Small, cheeky, brave. He won my heart. Unfortunately today, on the second anniversary of my father’s death, he was hit by a truck.”
“We tried to get him to the vet, but he died in my arms while I was telling him how much we loved him.”

Russell documented his time in the Outback with a sweet Instagram post of his ‘old man’ in April 2020.
He shared a photo of his father beaming in front of the perfect estate while wearing a baseball cap gifted to him by Russell.
He captioned the shot: “Isolation with old man. 84 now. I was wearing a hat I got at Princeton while shooting A Beautiful Mind.”
Russell announced the sad news of his father’s death in a series of tweets.
He wrote: “I was back in the bush last night. Today, though the sun is shining and the heavy rain has subsided, this date will forever be tinged with sadness.”
